You've landed at our Centenary Stone page

Our stone celebrates the Centenary of Darlington Rotary as one of the Town's oldest charitable institutions

Welcome!

Thanks for visiting this page and a big welcome, if you are linking to it from the QR code.
As you may have already seen, the location, thanks to the support of Darlington Borough Council, is alongside the Riverside Walk, which passes near to St Cuthberts Church.

This boulder joins 3 others famously placed around the town: the Bulmer Stone, near the southern end of Northgate on the edge of the town centre, the Manson Boulder near the Victoria Embankment entrance to the town’s SouthPark, and Stead’s stone, outside the library in Crown Street.

A message to the Future ...

We have also buried a time capsule with a letter to the future (see right) from the

President during our Centenary year, Michelle Thompson B.E.M., and various artefacts from our club including a list of current Rotarians, our magazine, centenary badges, a souvenir pennant and other items.

Do visit our other pages, click the donate button to give to our many projects, visit our facebook page for current events, or fill in the contact form if you want to know more about our club.

Best wishes, from all in

Darlington Rotary!

About our Stone

This is a 240 million yrs old chunk of Carboniferous sandstone, which contains bits of fossilised tree branches and coal fragments. The necessary raft foundations reflect Rotary’s raft of support for so many charities and community projects!
It has been excavated locally from Dunhouse Quarry. Local Stonemason Dave France helped to select it and has conditioned, carved and engraved it.
The steel emblem of our Rotary logo has been laser cut, and the carved wording simply reads:

Darlington Rotary Centenary 2023.
